There are many famous couples, but Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are perhaps the most famous. These two are in love, and they’re making a difference with their platform. It isn’t simply their commitment to social justice that makes them so admirable. They seemed to have a love story for the ages, one that had been in the works for more than a decade.

Bell and Shepard met during a birthday dinner. Although it wasn’t love at first sight, Shepard indeed recognized Bell as a ray of light early on, which is sweet. Once they cozied up to each other, they became “quite inseparable,” and they got engaged in December 2009. Bell and Shepard postponed their wedding until they achieved marriage equality in the United States. After the legalization of the Defense of Marriage Act, the couple married, confirming that Bell and Shepard could keep their pledge. They shelled out $142 million from their investment money and exchanged vows in a Beverly Hills courthouse in an “extravagant” ceremony.
